Alternatives to MS Word and other Office software (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
If you don't have MS Office on your computer at home, try one of these alternatives. Online suites like Google Docs and Zoho can be used anywhere you have an internet connection, which means you can work on your documents at home and at school without having to save on a flash drive!
AbiWord - A FREE word processing program similar to Microsoft Word. Must be downloaded to your computer.
Google Docs (soon to be Google Drive) - Create, share and collaborate on the web with documents, spreadsheets, presentations and more. Completely online.
Open Office - Apache OpenOffice is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.

Create A Graph
Need to create a graph to add to your research paper or lab report? Use this online tool to make bar, pie, line, area and XY graphs quickly and easily. Either print it out or save it and paste the image into your document or presentation.
Wordle
Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends. Great to create covers for notebooks and reports or enlarge them to make posters.

Need a fun graphic for your presentation or poster? Use ImageChef to create custom images using the templates provided. Change the text or add your own photo. Great for online avatars, too!

Want to spice up your boring PowerPoint presentation? Turn your photos, video clips, and music into stunning video masterpieces to share with everyone.
GIMP
Can't afford Photoshop? Try this FREE image editing software. Must be downloaded to your computer.
Prezi
Want something more dynamic than the same old PowerPoint slide show? Try Prezi to create presentations that zoom in and out, and more. This online software is FREE but all presentations are published publicly on the Prezi website, so be aware of what you are putting out there!
